Montserrat - The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean
Looking out towards the Atlantic from the Windward side of Nevis I could see Montserrat. The Soufriere Hills volcano had irrupted on the 18th July 1995 now 25 years ago. Though volcanic activity is low if the wind is in the right direction we get the smell of "rotten eggs" on the south side of Nevis. Looking at the view things seem so peaceful but there is still an active exclusion zone on Montserrat. The original capital of the island, Plymouth, is a ghost town half buried in volcanic ash from pyroclastic flows.
